It constantly surprises me what lies within the underground recesses of the subconscious. Thoughts, dreams, ideas, people, some long gone, forgotten or pushed aside emerge from their cobwebby holes and terrorize us while we sleep.
It is oddly liberating in a way. In dreams, you can do amazing things. You can fly, you can speak foreign languages, you can do anything. You are limited only by the scope of your imagination. Sleep on, lucky souls. Sail on to the land where dreams may come!

Another (though perhaps related) note, with regard to my own dreams, is that I find dreams which would have terrified me as a child, I now enjoy greatly--the vivid images of horror, death, and the bizarre.
Personally, I still find the nightmares I experienced as a child to be some of the most frightening I have ever experienced.
